Corries are the UKs foremost asbestos illness solicitors. We have fought for compensation and justice for thousands of victims and their families.

We have seen first hand the suffering victims and their families go through every single day. Our work is to obtain compensation for victims and their families to allow them to focus on their daily lives without the stress of financial worry.

Since 1996 we have recovered over £50 million in compensation.

WHAT ARE PLEURAL PLAQUES?
Have you been diagnosed with pleural plaques?
If you have been diagnosed with pleural plaques it is important that you register your claim with us. There was a 2007 court ruling which said that compensation could not be recovered but that looks likely to be overturned by parliament . The law has already been changed in Scotland and it is very likely that the law in England will be changed soon.

Pleural plaques is evidence of previous exposure to asbestos and the fear of going on to contract a more serious asbestos-related disease later. Living with this fear can be debilitating, especially if former colleagues have died of asbestos related cancers.

We know the condition can cause genuine anxiety to those it afflicts , please call us to register your claim..
What are Pleural Plaques?
The pleura is a membrane which lines the inside of the ribcage. When asbestos fibres are inhaled into the lungs they can work their way out to the pleura and may cause fibrosis or scarring. This causes localised thickening or calcification of the outer layer of the pleura.

Scarring of the lungs is caused by intense exposure to asbestos in the workplace. It can take more than 10 years for the scarring to show in X-rays but once identified it provides an indicator of the affect that asbestos has had on the health of the patient. Pleural plaques are chronic and do not have a cure.

Plaques rarely make breathing difficult and by themselves are seldom disabling. Rather, they are "markers" that indicate previous exposure to asbestos: they can help to confirm the cause of other diseases that might otherwise not be understood to be asbestos-related. However, a person who has plaques should be vigilant about his or her health. He or she may be at higher risk for developing other asbestos-related diseases and should therefore advise his or her doctor about this asbestos exposure.
