The number of people choosing cosmetic surgery has risen
considerably in the last decade with an estimated 75,000
operations performed in the UK each year.
This is being matched by an increasing number of cosmetic
surgery claims, with more than £7m paid out since
1993.
Cosmetic surgery claims are usually pursued when surgical
errors or insufficient, or improper aftercare leave patients
with horrific scarring, infection and bleeding as well as
psychological trauma and low self esteem.
It was recently confirmed that up to 20 per cent of private
healthcare complaints relate to cosmetic surgery. Claims
have resulted in compensation being awarded to the victims
of negligent treatment, with more than £1m awarded
in damages.
Many operations are carried out correctly and safely by
qualified and skilful surgeons with competent, experienced
aftercare staff. However, this is not always the case and,
for a variety of reasons, an increasing number of people
are suffering personal injuries as a result of negligence.
We provide a high level of legal expertise combined with
sympathetic advice and support, to anyone affected by negligent
cosmetic surgery. Solicitors at Corries have specific experience
in this area and we can refer you to a male or female lawyer
with experience in claims arising from cosmetic surgery.
Solicitors in our cosmetic surgery claim team are used to
dealing with sensitive or personal cases, and will be professional,
supportive and understanding at all times.
The most common cosmetic surgery claims for negligence
we see arise from:-
- Unsightly scarring or unevenness following breast uplifting
surgery or reduction surgery
- Vision problems following laser surgery
- Perforation to the bowel following liposuction
- Ineffective results from chemical peels, laser surgery
and demabrasion
- Scarring caused by face-lifts Ineffective results from
rhinoplasty (nose reshaping)
- Injury to the accessory nerve following a face-lift
- Scarring following liposuction procedures
Many cosmetic surgery claims come to us because of a failure
by the medical expert to adequately explain the risks involved,
the surgical procedure or the postoperative care.
The largest number of claims relate to breast and facial
surgery followed by rhinoplasty and face lifts.
