Work Pension Transfers

Many people were incorrectly advised to transfer from their work pension into a personal pension, especially during the 1980’s and 90’s.

It is clear that many people were badly advised to transfer their work pensions to private life assurance schemes and as a result are much worse off.

For example a number of mineworkers and steelworkers were advised to transfer from their respective work pension schemes in the early 1990s and as a result they have experienced average losses of £70,000.

If your pension transfer was reviewed at the end of the 1990s and you received a redress payment then you will not have suffered any significant loss.

Up To £150,000 compensation may be available.

OPTED OUT OF SERPS

SERPS stands for State Earnings Related Pension Scheme. Back in the 1980’s/90s’ many people were persuaded to opt out of SERPS and take out a personal pension plan into which their National Insurance contribution was paid. If you were over 40 for a woman or over 45 for a man when you opted out of SERPS and into a private pension plan with an insurance company then you may be entitled to claim compensation.

Please note that if you contracted out whilst a member of a company pension scheme then you will not have a loss.

Pension Annuity

You may have been sold the wrong pension annuity for you.

Thousands of people were not given the best annuity rate because their health issues or lifestyle habits were not taken into account. People with health issues were entitled to a higher annuity.

If you had health issues at the time of taking out the annuity, you could have a claim for compensation. Health issues can include such things as cancer, diabetes, heart problems and high blood pressure or any life limiting conditions.

Lifestyle habits can include issues such as heavy drinking, smoking and obesity.

Pension annuities should generally pass to the spouse on death. If a spouses pension died with them, and there was no provision for you, then you may be able to claim compensation.

Up To £150,000 compensation may be available.
